VOLUNTEER WITH TANDEM
We could not support the people that we do without our volunteers. As a one-to-one befriender with Tandem, you would be providing emotional support and a listening ear to someone who is living with mental health problems. But the benefits are not one-way. Research has also shown that volunteering has a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing.
There are no special skills or experiences needed to become a Tandem befriender, and we welcome volunteers from all sections of the community.
All we ask is that you:
-
Are able to meet your befriendee regularly for an hour.
-
Have an open mind and are accepting of people’s differences.
-
Are a good listener who enjoys spending time with people.
In return we can offer training and regular ongoing support for all volunteers. You’ll be able to meet other befrienders and have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing something invaluable in your spare time. You’ll also be able to improve your CV and career opportunities.
CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
If you would like to become a befriender with Tandem, and can regularly spare an hour or so then we'd love
to hear from you on our contacts page.
Shaking a collecting tin, running a sponsored 5K event, or giving up something for a month - whatever it is that you do, we would be grateful
for your support.
I have felt very proud to be a befriender and share time and company with my befriendee. Although, of course, I can't solve my befriendee's problems or health issues, I know that I have been a positive and beneficial element in his life.
